Abstract
This study investigated the effect of an intervention employing face-to-face and message feedback on smartphone usage regulation. The intervention used data collected by the application created for this study. In Study 1, participants with high levels of smartphone addiction were classified into high and low motivation groups according to level of motivational change in smartphone addiction, and then the experimental group was provided message feedback on total smartphone usage for two weeks. The experimental group¡¯s total smartphone usage was compared with that of the control group. In Study 2, face-to-face and message feedback were provided to five students with smartphone addictive tendencies. Changes in total smartphone usage were compared across pre-intervention, intervention, and maintenance periods. Study 1 results indicated that message feedback had no effect on smartphone usage, whereas Study 2 results indicated that combined face-to-face and message feedback resulted in a statistically significant reduction in smartphone usage.
